In this brief Qur'anic Reflection, Shaykh Faraz comments on a verse from Surat al-Tawba on following the Prophetic example (sunna) according to the way of the Companions--the first and foremost of those who followed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The verse:“And the first forerunners, of the Migrants & Helpers, & those who followed them in goodness - Allah is pleased with them & they are pleased with Him. He has prepared for them Gardens under which rivers flow, where they will abide for ever. That is the supreme triumph.” [Qur'an, 9.100] Shaykh Faraz shares five practices the Companions were distinguished by, and five qualities of the Companions. [Duration: 8 min, 56 sec]

Shaykh Faraz Rabbani shares key lessons about why we worship from the first call in the Qur'an: "O people, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, in order that you may attain mindfulness (taqwa)." [Qur'an, 2.21] He explains how the underlying motive in our worship is thankfulness, in recognition of the gift of life itself--and the other innumerable gifts of Allah Most High upon us. This thankfulness is expressed in our worship, and has an end: to become beloved to Allah, by being realized in the meanings of true submission. This true submission is mindfulness of Allah (taqwa).
