Qur'anic Reflections: Keys to Allah's Love and Mercy (Qur'an 3.29-31)

Shaykh Faraz Rabbani explains Qur'an: 3.29-31, in which Allah Most High says: "Say, "Whether you conceal what is in your breasts or reveal it, Allah knows it. And He knows that which is in the heavens and that which is on the earth. And Allah is over all things competent. The Day every soul will find what it has done of good present [before it] and what it has done of evil, it will wish that between itself and that [evil] was a great distance. And Allah warns you of Himself, and Allah is Kind to [His] servants." Say, [O Muhammad], "If you should love Allah , then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful." (Qur'an 3:29-31)

Among the key lessons are:

(1) Recognizing Allah's complete knowledge of all that one does, inwardly and outwardly.

(2) Knowing and realizing Allah's complete power over all things.

(3) Awareness of the realityy of the Day of Judgement, and that everyone will be held accountable for their actions.

(4) To obtain Allah's Mercy and Love, one must follow in the footsteps of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), outwardly and inwardly--in form and spirit.

Ramadan Reminders (Lesson 02) Fasting for Allah.

We need to have the highest of intentions in our fasts--and not merely go through the motions of fasting. The best of intentions for fasting is to have a clear sense of fasting "for Allah." This reminder explores what it means to fast "for Allah," and explains the Prophetic hadith, related by Bukhari, in which Allah says, "All the actions of people are for them, except for fasting. Fasting is for Me and it is I who reward it."

Ramadan Reminders (Lesson One)

This lesson covers "The Transformative Fast: The Qur'anic Call to Mindfulness, Thankfulness, and Turning to Allah in Our Fasting"

"O believers, prescribed for you is the Fast, even as it was prescribed for those that were before you -- haply you will be godfearing --for days numbered; and if any of you be sick, or if he be on a journey, then a number of other days. And for those who are unable to fast, a redemption by feeding a poor man. Yet better, it is for him who willingly gives more. And that you should fast is better for you, if you but know. The month of Ramadan, wherein the Koran was sent down to be a guidance to the people, and as clear signs of the Guidance and the Salvation. So let those of you, who are present at the month, fast it; and if any of you be sick, or if he be on a journey, then a number of other days; God desires ease for you, and desires not hardship for you; and that you fulfil the number, and magnify God that He has guided you, and haply you will be thankful. And when My servants question thee concerning Me -- I am near to answer the call of the caller, when he calls to Me; so let them respond to Me, and let them believe in Me; haply so they will go aright." (Qur'an: 183-186)

In this short Quranic Reflection, Shaykh Faraz comments on two verses from Surah al-Talaq (65.2-3), on being mindful of Allah in difficulty
The verses: "And whosoever fears God, He will appoint for him a way out, and He will provide for him from whence he never reckoned. And whosoever puts his trust in God, He shall suffice him. God attains his purpose. God has appointed a measure for everything." (Surah al-Talaq, 5.2-3)
Shaykh Faraz explains how one is to be mindful of Allah in times of  difficulties--both the difficult events in life, and difficult decisions (such as when one inclines to what is displeasing to Allah); and that is is a Divine promise that if one trusts in Allah, Allah will grant manifest openings.  (Duration: 7min 47 sec)

In this brief Qur'anic Reflection, Shaykh Faraz comments on a verse from Surat al-Tawba on following the Prophetic example (sunna) according to the way of the Companions--the first and foremost of those who followed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

The verse:“And the first forerunners, of the Migrants & Helpers, & those who followed them in goodness - Allah is pleased with them & they are pleased with Him. He has prepared for them Gardens under which rivers flow, where they will abide for ever. That is the supreme triumph.” [Qur'an, 9.100]

Shaykh Faraz shares five practices the Companions were distinguished by, and five qualities of the Companions. [Duration: 8 min, 56 sec]

Shaykh Faraz Rabbani shares key lessons about why we worship from the first call in the Qur'an: "O people, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, in order that you may attain mindfulness (taqwa)." [Qur'an, 2.21]
He explains how the underlying motive in our worship is thankfulness, in recognition of the gift of life itself--and the other innumerable gifts of Allah Most High upon us. This thankfulness is expressed in our worship, and has an end: to become beloved to Allah, by being realized in the meanings of true submission. This true submission is mindfulness of Allah (taqwa).

In the first of these brief weekly Qur'anic Reflections, Shaykh Faraz Rabbani shares five invaluable lessons from the central verse of Surat al-Fatiha: "Guide us to the Straight Path," [Qur'an, 1.6].

Shaykh Faraz explains what the desired destination--or goal--of the Straight Path is; making this purpose our general goal in life, and in all our life actions; how the Straight Path is the way of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); realizing the guidance is from Allah--and what this entails; and the need for community and company indicated by the way we ask for the Straight Path.
